Uhm...it all depends on where you're going. We've got Metro, www.wmata.com. Study and learn the map, it's a God send. Believe me.

Actually my parents not comfortable to use stairs to go up and down to get catch the trains. I wanted to make them comfortable to visit the places. That is the reason to know about the cabs fare.

We have escalators. I don't mean to sound like an ass about it though, so sorry if I come across that way but I'm only pushing Metro on you because you're going to save more money taking public transportation than you would taking a cab anywhere else. They all have meters, but I wouldn't be surprised if cab fares range between $10-$15 one way. It's 3 of you, so that's like...$4 right off the bat and he hasn't even moved.

recently visited and found the cab fares quite reasonable and a better alternative then paying the $32 for the tour buses and risking having a full one pull away without you. Metro was great and easy to use but sometimes you can't get real close to some of the monuments or neighborhoods. The most expensive cab ride was from SE (NE?) Pennsylvania Ave on the East side of the capitol to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial that cost about $11.50/$14 with tip. Well worth it and saved a lot of time and while the cabbies weren't too chatty (with us anyways) they seemed to take the quick routes and avoided major traffic and they are quick to find you when you need one.
