What kills me is the anti-gun zealots who live in super safe neighborhoods but swear up and down that gun laws make the hood safer.
I agree. There was a time when gun laws were far more lenient and yet you didn't have so-called Mexican standoffs everywhere.
The problem is poverty and education, not guns. But it's a lot easier to pass a law banning guns so every pol can give themselves a pat on the back than it is to reform education and increase income.

Crazy part is when I lived in the country in Mississippi, I had a gun. When I lived in the suburbs of New Orleans, I had a gun. I didn't get rid of my gun until I moved into the city of Washington DC. Crazy aint it.

When I lived in the country I had a gun too, as well as several other tools useful when living in the country. Now that I live in the city, I have tools useful for living in the city. A gun isn't one of them. I didn't even carry a gun when I was a Naval officer -- not needed on a submarine.
Looks like the city is caving in, and removing some of the barriers to owning a firearm in the district.
This is directly a result of Emily Miller's documentation in her series of articles on how utterly stupid, and in some cases dangerous, city policies are.
It'll take time and the continued efforts of other folks, but eventually DC will be as free as the neighboring states for owning a firearm.
