Cuccinelli said D.C.'s new rat law--the Wildlife Protection Act of 2010 (Wildlife Protection Act of 2010.pdf) --is “crazier than fiction” because it requires that rats and other vermin not be killed but captured, preferably in families; no glue or snap traps can be utilized; the rodents must be relocated from where they are captured; and some of these animals may need to be transferred to a “wildlife rehabilitator” as part of their relocation process.
Are DC lawyers and politicians insane? Or are they simply offering professional courtesy to their peers?
I know DC is a liberal town, but to offer thousands of Norweigan Ship Rats who had illegally immigrated to DC an "amnesty" program is just too much!
"Moreover, while the Act applies to various species such as the raccoon, possum, pigeon and squirrel, it does not serve to protect mice and rats." - Animal Blawg
"The Wildlife Protection Act does nothing to change the sites where release of animals is possible—it has always been illegal to release animals on federal lands and to transport wildlife across state lines. This bill suggests relocating or releasing animals when possible, but it does not prohibit lethal control." - Washington Examiner
Seems propaganda took another victim. Never trust a single source.
Since rats are known to be incorrigible enemies of the United States, they should be held permanently in a detention center - preferably on an island also occupied by an evil commie nation.
The first page of the bill exempts rats and mice from protection.
The prevalence of people who believe every dumb thing they hear, and then pass it on with their own added vitriol and mindless outrage is more of a problem than rats and mice.
Oh, and Maryland, your Attorney General can't read a 7 page bill. You might want to do something about that, other than elect him governor.

But if the fable is more interesting than the fact, many go with the fable. After one poster pointed out that rats weren't protected, another poster continued with the fable.
