Was the thread supposed to mean "east coast city" or "least cost city"? That will help us to answer.

The mountains within driving distance of Philadelphia are also pretty lackluster FWIW. I've never seen powder on PA slopes. It's a 10 minute icy scrape to the bottom.

That's true. There are no real mountains in the corridor.

The Appalachian mountains are mostly a few thousand feet. It's true they're not as stunning and spectacular as the mountains in the western U.S. If someone wants to live near that, then no east coast city is going to suffice.

However, the Appalachians are also very green and scenic in that way. That's an esthetic you don't get in most of the western mountains (except for part of the PNW). It's pretty dry there for the most part.

I love DC! I'm originally from MA and wouldn't mind living in Boston but DC has much more going on and it more more cultured than Boston. Philly isn't really a nice city in my opinion. If you like culture and a melting pot of people I recommend DC.
