I'm looking for a place (preferably a three bedroom) to rent in a family friendly neighborhood that will accept a small house broken dog. We will only be there for one year so just a good elementary school and either close to a metro or bus stop. I'm going to be there for training in Arlington, but we don't have to live there if there's a decent way to get there. My housing allowance is a little over $2000. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

You can rule out DC itself if your budget is $2000 for a three bedroom. That's simply too low of a budget for a safe, family-friendly neighborhood in the city. Even $2000 for a TWO bedroom would be a little tight.

I suggest you look at the farther-out suburbs in Maryland or Virginia. There are dedicated forums for these areas. I suggest you try posting there as well.

I suggest you to set up your priority first. $2000 budget is nearly impossible to get 3 bedroom with close to metro or buses, and good elementary school unless you live far far away...

Forget DC, or up your budget to $4000

You might want to take a look at Pimmit Hills in Falls Church (22043 zip code). $2,000 won't get you anything fancy, but you can rent an older house with 3-BR that would be in a good elementary school district (Westgate or Lemon Road ES in Fairfax County) and fairly close to West Falls Church metro, which you can take to Arlington.
