Currently, I live in Virginia and go to Virginia Tech's satellite campus in Falls Church for grad school. I've been thinking about moving into DC and was wondering if I could get in state tuition? I know district residents are eligible for in state tuition for some states for undergrad, but what about grad school?
Seems to me that DC residents are extremely limited in terms of college. Yes, there are some world class universities in the city but the tuition is so outrageously, insanely, expensive that it isn't an option for the average person. I've heard U of DC is horrible, we are expected to pay out of state tuition at U of Md. I guess most people that live here have grown up outside of the District and already completed college. Still sucks for residents though.
Also, I'm pretty sure that Maryland (and possibly Virginia residents) don't have to pay out of state tuition to attend U of DC. Which is a real kick in the ass.
Actually, DC has the Tuition Assistance Grant, which I think is just for undergrad. It pays up to $10,000 to cover the difference between in-state and out of state tuition at state universities. My friend goes to Michigan and gets $10,000 taken care of by the program. I believe anyone can get it, it's not need-based.
