Basically I'm new to DC as a New U.S permanent resident and I'm looking for work in the DC area. Preferably in the non-profit sector with a focus on community development or international development. I just graduated in June from a University back in London with a B.A in International Relations & Development studies. The thing is, I've been looking for just over a month now and nothing has really come up. It seems rather difficult finding work here. I'm 25 and I have quite an extensive resume, including teaching in Japan for a year, also a program coordinator for a summer camp in San Francisco, over 3-4 years customer service experience, small temp positions in market research company's. Call center experience 1-2 years. I've worked in the billing department of the biggest UK energy company for a year. I'm open to branching out and working in other fields to be honest and not focusing just on my degree. I'm even open to moving to a different city for work since I'm not tied down with kids or a mortgage and I'm single. Any advice would be appreciated

This is a great place to be to find work in the non-profit sector. It might just take longer than you expected to find a position. If you've been living here for a month and still haven't landed any interviews, you should work on your approach - retooling your resume, making connections...etc. It could be that some employers aren't familiar with the companies on your resume. You might also want to look into temp agencies. When I moved to the area, it took me a little over 3 months to find a permanent position but only a couple of weeks to find temp work. The temp agency sent me on interviews at some well known organizations, like the Red Cross and the George Washington University. That could be your in at an organization you're interested in or at least some Stateside work experience/references.

Good luck!
