I wanna get a tatoo. Not now, but next year, and it'd be my first, and I want to start researching who it is I'll go to.

I've heard of DC Ink, but they don't seem to have any web presence, Jynx Proof, who have mixed reviews that are mostly positive but old, and a place called Fatty's.

I got half of my back done at Orange Tattoo in Annapolis - worth the drive in my opinion; great artists, great space, decent prices. I had a small piece done by an artist at DC Ink but he's no longer there and it seems to be touch and go to me. I'd go back for small things but if you're doing your first one, you really need to do your homework.

As a heavily tattooed person (got most of my work in California), I would advise you to REALLY think it out and get a good feel for wherever you go, which is why I've suggested checking out Orange. I have yet to hear from my California people that any of the DC shops are that worth going to so keep looking around until you find someone that really fits for what you're looking for. One guy who tattoos at my shop in San Francisco did mention on my trip home two weeks ago that Jinx Proof has a decent reputation but like you, I looked at their reviews and was pretty torn to the point where I did not feel comfortable going there.

Check out Orange if you can get out to Annapolis. Joe did my back and will be finishing off my arm: http://orangetattoocompany.com/artis...weone-nasatka/

It doesn't have to be in DC. Just in the general area. I don't really wanna have to travel all the way to New York. I'm not looking for anything super complicated, but I am looking for a scar coverup, so that has to be taken into consideration, and so many places lack any means to contact them via email.

DC Ink did over two big scars I had in my ditch (a notoriously hard spot to tattoo) but like I said, the guy who did it no longer works there. I'm happy with the piece but not sure about their other artists.

Seriously, look up Orange. Annapolis certainly isn't New York and anyone in the shop can hook you up with something really good. You'll have to go up for a consult first though, they do walk ins but it's probably best to talk to one of their artists, place a deposit and come back when they have time to do you right.
