Best record in baseball vs. a division team right behind you in the standings, and I couldn't believe all the empty seats I saw on the highlights. Are the Nationals gonna be the next Tampa Bay when it comes to attendance with a very good product? I thought Washington was a better sports town than that....for sure.

They just did 110,000 for the weekend series against the Mets. The fans are there, but the Braves are not a good road selling team.

Attendance numbers are way up. Keep in mind the game was also in doubt cause of the weather. The game start time was delayed by about an hour because of the rain.

Also the game ended around 12:30-1AM on a school/work night. Any highlights from the extra innings are going to show very few people in the stands for that reason.

MLB calculates attendance based on ticket sales, not the number of people actually attending the game. So the published attendance numbers don't reflect what you see in the stadium. If the attendance of a Nats game is 29,844 (2012 avg), that means there are over 11,500 unsold tickets and inevitably more than 11,500 empty seats.

Their ticket sales rank 14th out of the 30 teams. So DC has mustered JUST enough interest in the best team in baseball to put them in the upper half of ticket sales, but I would venture a guess that their butts-in-the-seats attendance falls somewhere in the bottom half of all teams.

This has been their only winning season since their first year here. I would look more at the attendance numbers for next year, not this year. Takes awhile to build a fanbase, moreso when the team has stunk for 4-5 years.

thousands of fans had to leave early last night because the metro was gonna close at 11:15. You'd think they have some kind contingency plan if a game has an hour rain delay and lasts 13 innings like it did last night. But, it's metro after all

The last metro train to Greenbelt from Navy Yard leaves at 11:40. If you want to transfer to another line it would be like 11:20ish..so yeah. I'm shocked they don't extend metro service a bit.

Exactly! I was invited by two people to the games. I said no thanks when it started raining.

What do they do if the games extend past this time?
