Why in the hell do people charge so much for rooms in this area? And then theyll addin other bullsh.t like a security deposit, etc... By the time you pay all that ya might as well get an apartment. And THEN a lot of people do not rent to couples for whatever reason. Im personally looking for something back in the DC because im moving back soon and craigslist is being the ultimate douche.

If you were letting a stranger move in with you, wouldn't you want some kind of assurance?

I'm guessing a lot of people wanna make a living off of something as boring as renting living spaces to people.

I don't think the thrills come from earning passive income as much as spending passive income.

have you tried roomates.com. I had more success with them than craigslist when I first moved here.

Because the cost of real estate is prohibitive here. This is why people need roommates in some instances. Mortgages eat up paychecks and rents get jacked up 10 percent or more in some locations. But hey, if you can plunk $1,200 on a studio apartment, go for it.

When someone advertises for a roommate on Craigslist, notice that the word "roommate" is in the singular. When I posted an ad for someone to move into one of the bedrooms, I was looking for a "roommate" not roommate(s). Meaning just ONE person. Apparently, people would still ask me if they can bring a boy or girlfriend with them. Uh, no...read the ad closely. Furthermore, I might get along with the guy who moved in but his live-in girlfriend could be the banshee b*tch from hell. It's a real crap shoot with one person; with two people, the odds of confrontation and drama increase greatly.

And this is why so many Craigslist real estate posters have to state in bold letters, "WE DO NOT RENT TO COUPLES".

You and the Hunny Bunny should split the cost of a studio apartment somewhere in the Washington, DC area.

I think $1200 for a studio is a FANTASTIC deal if relatively close to a metro.

Rents are the same as other places I've lived in the Northeast. Whats the problem? Real estate ain't cheap.
