I'd really appreciate anyone's thoughts on this...
I am planning to spend a month in DC and I have a great option in Capitol Hill, and I like what I've heard about the area. But, I would be heading to and from Silver Spring during the weekday rush hrs via the metro. So, how reasonable is that commute every day? I live in Chicago so I'm not at all averse to public transportation. The place I'm looking at staying is at 11th se & Independence se.
If it is manageable, what would be the best route to take?
So far I've looked at picking up the metro at Eastern Market then transferring to the red line at Metro Center to SS. But, what about hopping the #96 bus on E Capitol to Union Station and going north from there?
Also, google maps estimates the to and from trips at less than an hr each way, but I know from experience it isn't always accurate on public trans travel times. What might it be realistically?
Bus (96/97 down E Capitol or the Navy Yard Circulator from Eastern Market Metro), bike, or walk (1.3 mi. down Mass Ave) to Union Station. Don't bother transferring downtown.
