Does anyone know of any places that would accept Great Danes on rental properties? i.e. apartments, townhomes, homes, condos...I noticed that the Great Dane is a breed restriction in most complexes which I find strange as they are not vicious, are not highly active dogs (more like lounge dogs) and do fine in apartments...at least here in Austin they are all over the place...I have had my Dane for 9 years and cannot just get rid of her...

Thanks for any recommendations

If you’re willing to live in Northern VA, check out Sullivan Place apartments in Alexandria.

Very, very dog-friendly, allows large dogs as well – I have seen a couple of Mastiffs here too! Do keep in mind that this is a luxury apt community and rents can be fairly high.

Try Falkland Chase in Silver Spring. I lived in Silver Spring about 5 years ago and that complex was known for being the most dog-friendly in the area. The web site says they have breed restrictions but no weight restrictions.

I feel your pain. I have two German Shepherds. I was recently offered a great job in another city. I thought I would rent a crash-pad there and come home to my house on weekends, bringing my dogs with me each week, but I don't think I'm going to be able to find a rental there, between the breed restrictions and the weight restrictions.

I'm surprised to hear that Great Danes are on the list.

The Allegro in Columbia Heights allows larger dogs. There are some breed restrictions I believe, but no weight limits.

If money is not an issue, i would recommend Archstone Wisconsin Place in Friendship heights. They are very very dog friendly. I think they have dog parties once in a while.

Thanks for the recommendations.. I will check them out but I'm thinking we may have to rent a house that will allow us to have large dogs...hopefully people are more understanding...I just can't imagine giving up my dogs especially one I have had for nine years and may not last much longer as Danes are not known to live that long....

Thanks again

Let me ask you. Where are you going to take your dog for a walk everyday? Especially a big dog?

Don't give up your dog, and live in VA. Dog haven. What is your budget anyway? I know few places....
