Makes all the sense in the world to build this near Nats Park. As I stated previously, when I was in Philly, I believe they had the football and baseball stadium on the same parking lot, with the hockey arena not too far away from either of them (can't remember). It just looks organized.
Awesome news if it pans out, lots of hurdles still though. The DC Council can easily change their minds later and there has been alot of fickleness on the subject for years.
But I was hoping Buzzards Point would be the place, great location, IMO, good for drivers, bicyclists, metro-riders or walkers, heck you could even take a boat!
If this happens, especially combined with some high-profile player acquisitions, DC United should become bigger than ever!
Very exciting. I'm curious though as to how traffic will move from M St. to the new stadium? Delaware and 1st are both quiet residential streets, and the new development could bring a lot of traffic through those areas. Best thing would be if Half street was the main thoroughfare since it's a through street all the way up the I (Eye) St, but even that would bring a lot of traffice through the existing public housing. Maybe this is an opportunity to redevelop the public housing like they did to Cappers-Carrollsburg in Navy Yard.

Those projects are the Greenleaf Housing Projects and they are in the process of being redeveloped by the choice grant program.
I'm not a soccer fan but this is good news for the city and the neighborhood. Buzzard Point has been a dump for decades. This will pump some life into the area.
