My son is moving to DC. He was told by a friend that he should look around U St. between 10th and 13th.
He was also told to look between R-W and 10-18th. In my searching for an apt., I can't seem to pinpoint what neighborhoods the above would be. He wants to be near the U Station on the Metro. Could someone please narrow down the neighborhoods and/or zip codes where I should be looking.

Are there any apt. rental companies that have lots of listings and you just tell them what area you're interested in. My nephew used ReMove in Atlanta and it was great. Thanks for any help you can give.

Is there a reason you're looking and not him? I'm sure folks that could help would have questions for HIM.

You're looking at the U Street Corridor and parts of the Logan Circle and Dupont Circle neighborhoods. The U Street Metro Station has entrances at 10th and 12th street on U Street. If he's looking to be close to there, I would also look at the "Shaw" neighborhood as close to the 10th street entrance as possible. The Dupont neighborhood (that would be at the 18th & R corner of your range) is a little far west of the U Street stop, although it's a very nice neighborhood.

I'm afraid that craigslist is the best resource I can suggest for finding apartments. I don't know the large apartment scene very well, but if you drop a pin on google maps at the Ustreet Metro and use the 'search nearby' function, you can probably find apartment buildings easily enough.

Flamingo13- I get your point. My son IS searching for an apartment. I offered to help because I was a librarian and love to do research. There is no way I'd be helping if he wasn't seriously looking and doing the majority of the work.

KStreeQB- Thanks so much. I think it's exactly what he needs.

Websites like hotpads.com and padmapper.com can be a huge help too.

That neighborhood on U between 10th and 13th is typically referred to as the U Street Corridor. It's a part of Shaw, though there is a difference between that area and the Shaw stop. The zip code is 20001, which includes a large area that goes from Columbia Heights and U Street, down to the Convention Center.

The wider area is Shaw, with the sub-neighborhoods of Logan Circle, U-Street, and maybe a bit of Adam's Morgan or Dupont Circle.
