Unlikely since 16th stops at Lafayette Park. 14th goes through, but will normally not be as fast as taking Beach/Rock Creek Parkway from SS.

I think they were right the first time. 14th does lead into the 395.

I'm confused since 14th doesn't go all the way from Silver Spring to 395. At least when I checked Google maps, it appears that Walter Reed gets in the way. Is the map wrong?

No, the map's correct. There's no "straightshoot path" from Georgia to 14th. Take Georgia southbound from Silver Spring, and once you get past the hospital you can turn right on any intersecting street to 14th and go from there.

However, I do agree that that's the long way to get from SS to Alexandria. It'd probably be better to take the 495. Here are directions with Google Maps, using generic locations. It gives the approximate arrival time of 45 minutes.

You probably don't want to take 495 in a commuting environment. It's often gridlocked. 14th, 16th and Beach will move. The advantage of Beach is there are only a couple traffic lights between Colesville Rd and Memorial Bridge.

The disadvantage to beach is getting stuck behind some slowpoke.
