1213 U Street, NW

We’ve talked about this before but given the recent news I think it’s time for a straight up call to Ben’s. And especially because this mural is so prominent on U Street (not to mention only a few years old) – it’s embarrassing. But worse than that, I can only imagine how victims of sexual assault feel when they walk by it. It should be taken down period. There may not be precedent in doing so but it’s still the right thing to do. Think they should? Think they will? I’m sure there are many candidates more deserving of this space – how about a return of Duke Ellington to U Street?

As a private business, they have a right to display Charles Manson if they want. But the tasteful thing to do would be to replace it; Duke Ellington would be perfect. I'm sure they'll remove or replace that image sometime soon.

There was a Washington Post article a few weeks back that discussed this. Bill Cosby is a family friend of the family that owns Ben's. They have known Cosby for decades that went beyond him stopping by the restaurant for free food every few years. They don't want to be quick to abandon and pile on him when he is down, but the article hinted that changes are going to eventually happen.

I hope they leave it up. i hate folks abandoning friends in their times of need. If someone defaces it then so be it.

I'm sure Jerry Sandusky would agree with you.

I always thought Bill Cosby was a tool. Never liked him.

With that said. I bet 99% of the Celebs in Bens Chili bowl have some dark and illegal activities in their past. Cosby is the only one that got caught. People need to stop looking up to and worshiping celebs. Most of them are mentally ill.

I say leave it as it is.

Well you defend all your friends drugging and raping women and see how far that gets you. Civilized society that doesn't consider women to be rape objects prefers human decency prevail.

I liked the Cos. Sad to find out that the whole time he was a nogoodnik.
