For a scene in a novel, I'm looking for the proper neighborhood in the area where a single 25-year-old law school graduate working for a law firm would likely take an apartment or condo.

Thoughts?

Co-signed. I would also recommend Shaw, Bloomingdale, Logan Circle, and Columbia Heights for you too OP.

Many of the neighborhoods mentioned might even be a little too downscale for a 25-yo associate. Most of the ones I've known work incredibly long hours and prefer big, bland, no-fuss apartment buildings a few blocks from the office -- i.e., Dupont Circle, Mount Vernon Triangle, NoMa. Friends of mine who live in such buildings say they're surrounded by young lawyers.

If your young grad is a Southerner, s/he might live near Ballston or Clarendon; if s/he works in something related to diplomacy, then perhaps Van Ness or Cathedral Heights.

How much money does he or she have? If the person is a typical student (i.e., not much money), they're probably renting a house with a bunch of other people somewhere in the suburbs--especially if they go to GMU law in Arlington. GW Law--he might share an apartment in Petworth. He definitely would not be in Clarendon (Arlington) or Cathedral Heights, DC.

Carlingtonian,

1. Where is his office?

2. Is he paying off law school loans?
