it's pretty safe but i don't think i would want to live there

If you haven't done so already, check out the Prince of Petworth blog for crime-related articles and commentary.

crimereports dot com, and MPDC's Twitter feed are also good sources for crime information.

It is not that bad, but it's not nearly as safe as Takoma or Silver Spring, which are in a similar price range, albeit a bit further north.

I have to agree though, it feels safer than Columbia Heights these days.

I would advise against the northern part of Petworth and Brightwood Park though.

With that being said Petworth is not a bad neighborhood by any means. Ward 4 in general is one of the safer wards of the city.
