I have done the calculators. I am interested in hearing actual experiences with this, what kind of home prices are feasible, downpayments, locations (northern virginia preferred). Anything. Thanks!

Get in touch with organization such as Manna. They renovate housing and sell at below market prices to moderate income residents.

DC government runs a program for this.
