Searching on the internet I found this really useful forum.
I would appreaciate if someone could give me some advice about which areas should I target. I will work at the FDA. I am single and I would like to have social life with young people and young professionals like me (especially woman ).
Where is your office location? HQ? FDA has offices all over...but I think most are along red line, so I would target areas along red line. Supposedly a lot of the hoods toward on the east side of the line are gentrifying like Brookland and NoMa but I still think they're crap and wouldn't live there. The best hoods will be on the western side of the line (Dupont, Woodley Park, Cleveland Park, etc) or further up eastern side in like Silver Spring or Takoma Park.
...cue DistricSonic to tell you about Silver Spring and Takoma Park...

My location will be Silver Spring.
Would it be a hell driving 3 times per week to Silver Spring? Is the traffic in DC that bad? Is it free parking in street in DC? Is it hard to find a free and safe place to park?
Do you want to live near work, or do you want to live in DC proper?
I would like to have the best trade/off. I read Silver Spring, Rockville, Bethesda is extremely boring. I also read that DC is nice. I have no idea because I have never live there... I do not want to spend 1 hour/day commuting but I definitely do not want to feel lonely and out of society...
I though about renting in a big appartment with nice facilities (pool, jacuzzi, gym...) and close to metro (just in case)

False.
NoMa is no longer "crap". It is a good area now. Most people still don't know this.. which is nice because it keeps the prices low. In a few years people will figure it out and prices will fly up.

Any suggestions?
What is your price limit? That makes a big difference. Apartments near the Metro with nice facilities will cost you.
I say move to NoMa while its still relatively cheap. Its a hidden gem. A lot of people in DC never go there because they assume its "hood" so they have no idea its a different place now.
If you work in Silver Spring near the Red line then driving shouldn't be an issue because you can Metro. But if you have to drive, then living in the "fun" parts of DC will probably make your commute long. However, since you will be commuting OUT of the city when everyone else is commuting IN.. I can't imagine the commute being more than 40 minutes.

NoMa is coming along nicely, but overall still remains hood. The apartments there are still overpriced and not worth living there dealing with all the BS at that price point.
