I am planning a trip to DC with a few of my girlfriends. We are pretty much looking at 4-5 star hotels in DC and the surrounding area (Arlington) etc. Is Rosslyn too far from the nightlife (bars/restaraunts/etc.). I know the Metro runs there, but does it run 24 hours to all stations? Would Foggy Bottom, Georgetown area be better or what about north of the White House (the Downtown Area)..

I had narrowed it down to The Melrose Hotel, The Renassaince M, the Hotel Palomar in Arlington, the Madison (Lowes Hotel), The Omni on Calvert or possibly the Westin on M Street?? Not sure about location.. We don't really want to stay in an Artsy/Fartsy part but more the upscale hangouts.

Thanks!

I think Georgetown might be the best bet, it has a bunch of upscale clubs and lounges, plus a lot of bars. Very walkable as well, problem is you would have to take a cab to any other nightlife areas of town. I would also recommend the Washington Hilton on Connecticut. It's between Dupont circle and Adams Morgan neighborhoods, both big nightspots. downtown nightspots would be a quick cab from there, even walkable if you can handle 10 blocks or so.

The Four Seasons in Georgetown is a lovely hotel. They do a fantastic high tea, have nice spa services, and there is great nightlife and shopping in Georgetown. It isn't that far of a walk to Foggy Bottom or you could easily get a cab.

I always love the JW Mariott at 14th and Pennsylvania. You can walk almost everywhere from there and you have immediate access to the red, orange, and blue Metro lines. It's right downtown with alot happening.

No the Metro is not 24 hrs... but it closes at 3am on Friday and Saturday nights.

Rosslyn is right across the river from DC via the Key Bridge which you can walk across if you want to. It goes right into Georgetown, but not the part where all the bars are (Wisconsin Ave).

As far as 4 and 5 star hotels.... I don't think there's too many in Arlington.... maybe the 2 Marriotts, Doubletree and the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City or the Ritz in Pentagon City. In DC you have the 4 Seasons or the Crowne Plaza in Georgetown (Melrose is in G'town but I don't think that's 4 or 5 star....). There's several downtown so I can't name them all. But your best bets for nightlife, would be Georgetown, Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle (if you liike partying with the gays).
