This is not a swipe at DC but I am still trying to fit the puzzle together when it comes to Wale. Even before pressing play, I read the title and was like "here we go again". Dude is always complaining. Then you read in the comments section, everyone is saying the same thing- that dude is always complaining and seems like a negative person to be around.

Look, not for nothing, but I really wonder if it is Wale or is because the DMV isolates itself that it doesn't have a team building network of artists and movers that can take the load off of him. I know go-go has a lot to do with it but everything is pretty much Wale so I would think that would have some type of impact.

I truly believe that when you have a tri-state area such as the DMV, where there are only but a few that are repping the area, it can have a profound impact on how each individual moves up and down the ladder. The competition isn't there, the hustle isn't there, and the team building isn't there on a large scale. If there isn't that flow of energy, it doesn't force others that are beyond the music to get out and push the scene beyond its boundaries. It's the same for the nightclub scene here where everything is so niche and local culture. Big names come to DMV but we don't take advantage to network with these elite DJs to cultivate and send any of our own out- that is a HUGE problem. All other major cities have had their major djs cultivate mixtapes to put on the rappers. This is how all these guys got put on. DJ khaled now puts out albums featuring his team of rappers from across the US. DMV doesn't have this.

I really don't think rappers or artists alone will change the game. I have been at this for a long time and there has to be a synergistic role between artists, venues, promoters, record labels, A&R, PR reps, and other industry insiders that create the OUTWARD energy. Right now, this energy may have the artists bubbling but it doesn't seem to have the Russell Simmons, DJ Vlad, Dej jams, and other resources that are behind the scenes to funnel major impact. If DMV does generate more artists, it will be like Wale and Logic, shooting out but nothing really returning internally to further invest our own. - your thoughts?

In an article, the writer says something similiar:
Quote:
They say “you are only funky as your last cut.” That's true, but you're also only as funky as your hometown. As much as we’d love to think talent wins out over everything that’s really just a pipe dream. The reality is where you are from matters. For a region rich in black culture, the major rapper cupboard is surprisingly bare.

Think about it. Besides Wale and Logic, what other DMV rappers have really seen any kind of long-term, mainstream success? Shy Glizzy? Fat Trel? Phil Ade? All noteworthy names to readers of our pages, but none have the clout of a Wale or Logic. As a DMV native myself, and a hip-hop writer, it’s something I’m cognizant of and it's beyond frustrating.

I listened to the interview and I don't hear much complaining at all but I guess people hear what they want.

Wale isn't nearly as good as he thinks he is. I wanted to support him cuz hes from the area, and i liked his early stuff back in '05, '06. but his later work has been very mediocre. Nothing new or interesting. I just can't get into his music or his flow...

Maybe he is conscious of his suburban background.

Do you realize your patterns? Did you even read the youtube comments?

With a profile name of truth2power, you are horrible at thread buffing. You are the worst type of putting your finger in your ear while yelling out "la, la, la".

And no, don't tell me to relax. This is the typical move when people realize that they got caught and use that approach to take the heat off them. Patterns2predictibality

This is what shy glizzy said himself about DC. KEEP IN MIND, he was NOT speaking of DC or his fans, he was speaking of his constituents in the rap game as well as other contributing artists- not the DMV as a whole. This was the misunderstanding- so he says.

I personally think he just brilliantly back tracked his statements on what he trully felt about the DC area but that's just me...

His quote:
“I think of it for what it is: washed up. It’s a party city now. Goofy town. D.C. ain’t proud of me at all. I do what nobody else does for D.C., and nobody tells me thank you. I ain’t never seen nobody in D.C. support a project I put out.

I’m doing the biggest sh-t D.C. ever done in history, period. Nobody dropping records like I’m dropping except for Wale, and that’s different. D.C. want me dead or in jail, so what the f-ck I’m supposed to want from them? Straight up.”

see the rap game needs better talent. wale and shy glizzy are ignant and dont do anything for their city or DMV. they attract the youth but only for a while until they not as fresh as other artists. idk but i never liked shy glizzy he’s nobody special. wale i liked before but he whines like a b*** now. Who gonna respect that?? no artist complains about there fans or they gain haters. thats unusual. plus wale hates DC in his comments. i dont care his excuse he is a liar. no confidence just a whiner.

Who's telling you to relax, I could care less what you think. You're nobody to me... I actually listened to most of the interview, but not all of it. Some of us have real jobs and don't have time to waste spinning garbage house music all day and trolling the internet looking to take shots at DC. And given some of your rants you should be one to talk. I don't need to take the heat off of myself. Because quite frankly you and people like you don't have much heat to offer. I listened to most of his interview and I didn't think that he was complaining in IMO. I didn't address my comment to anybody in particular. So if you took offense to it, that's your F'in problem. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!
