I’m looking for a new primary care provider (PCP), preferably near the Dupont Circle area (but I would travel further for an excellent doctor). Since I am a guy, I might relate better to a male physician, although I wouldn't rule out a highly recommended female doctor. Does anyone have experience with a doctor who you would recommend - or someone I should avoid? I don't want a concierge doctor or a physician group that charges an annual fee. Thanks!
GW is an excellent suggestion. I used to see Jehan El- Bayoumi, an older woman who was excellent. It would be easy to find a younger male primary care doctor.
First, I would see what kind of insurance you have and then do a radius search from where you live and work on your insurance providers website after you log in. You can usually narrow down your search by the provider sex type you prefer. If you're a healthy guy and just want to get an annual physical, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a quack to just check your vitals and ask you general lifestyle questions. What I do is check what providers accept my insurance (I prefer a 5 mile radius from where I live or work in an urban setting) and check their ratings. Sometimes insurance companies have this info on their site, sometimes not. Just google the provider and you're bound to find Google ratings or ratings on websites that track providers specifically. GW Medical Faculty Associates is a huge group and their physicians practice at hospitals all over the city. You can also look at Washington Hospital Center's website and search for physicians. I would prefer a physician at WHC or GW. I've never been a fan of Georgetown University Hospital for some reason, however, physicians at group such as GWMFA are credentialed at multiple hospitals sometimes. For a regular visit, you shouldn't need to go to a large hospital setting though.
