HI, We are planning to relocate to the DC area - are there any places within reasonable commute outside of DC where one can own horses on small acerage (2+ acres)? I am having a difficult time searching for properties, and am not yet at the point where I want to bring in a real estate agent.

Any information would be appreciated!

There are a number of areas in Fairfax County (VA) where you can keep horses, but there are acreage and zoning requirements. The best bet for detailed information is probably to ring up the County Office of Zoning Administration...703-222-1082. The same is likely true for other counties in the area, but I'm not so familiar with them...

I would try Great Falls. There are a number of stables there as well. It is a reasonable commute to DC, under an hour, but one of the most expensive communities in the DC area. You could also try the parts of McLean that are close to Great Falls. Again, it is expensive.
