I will be graduating this Spring and working for the DOD starting in June. I would like an apartment in either D.C. or Virginia. I will be commuting to Alexandria, V.A. Any suggestions? Preferably I would'nt like to spend anymore than $800 - $1000 a month.

You'll likely need to adjust your budget or look for roommate(s) if you want to keep it under $1k. DC and northern VA (Arlington, Alexandria) are doable at that cost but usually only with roommates.
