Our family is moving to the area as soon as one of other children graduates high school. We would like to meet and talk some folks from the area, so when we come for a visit in the future we will know folks. Plus, it is a good way to get to "know" the area before making a trip. Talking to folks on here is fine for starters, then as we both feel more comfortable, e-mail back and forth or maybe facebook each other. We are very laid back but cautious, love the outdoors, love sports ( me and son more so than wife) and open to most anything. We can talk more about things later. We are really looking forward to the time that we can up and visit and finally move there from Alabama. Yes, we know the weather is so much different there, it is time for a change. Thanks to all who respond and even more so to those who are willing to take a chance and make friends long distance. Have a happy day.

I would sure not be hanging around AL for HS, when I could be in Bellingham getting Free College INSTEAD of High School.
Whatcom Community College :: Running Start + this would get you a 'running start' on 'residency'

You might enjoy Lynden, Ferndale, close enough to Bellingham, but less expensive / smaller towns. (And closer to CDN

I'm 6 hrs from Bellingham, but go as often as possible. I always stay in private homes that offer Guest rooms / qtrs in the area ($10 - $20 / night). Great way to get acquainted and get the straight story. I've been traveling the world that way for about 20 yrs.

Bellingham area will treat you well, but it is pretty expensive. (Cost of housing). Thus I would look to live nearby. There are bargains everywhere these days for houses. I personally like to buy a beater Mobile home in the nearby countryside. You can bulldoze and replace in a day, but get your land, well, power, septic, road ... quick way to get a less expensive joint. Build a decent shop with an apartment inside, and taxes will be much lower than a house. (plus a great BIG area to play! (while it is drizzling 8 months at a stretch.))
