Hi,
I am currently living in Missouri and we have a huge spider problem here. We are looking into moving to washington. Probably the eastern half. Is there a huge spider problem?
If so what kind of spiders is there to worry about?

thanks!

You are joking right? Eastern WA is the spider capitol of the planet. They are mostly just "wolf" spiders, don't bite people, but spin webs and make a mess of the north side of any sort of building.

You can find Black Widow spiders here, they are not real common, but they do exist.

Haha! I guess that is so! here we have horrible brown recluses and they don't stay hidden! And we keep a very clean home. I guess there isn't a lot you can do to get rid of them.
What about the wolf spiders? Can you spray and control them?

umm, if you don't mind my two cents...Wolf Spiders do in fact bite and if allergic can be extremely dangerous My son was bit two times in his life and had to be rushed to the hospital, but he is allergic... We control them with regular scheduled house treatments though and we live in Florida. Good luck!

spiders galore in western washington! wood spiders and wolf spiders mostly. in the late summer and early fall you can clear the webs from around your front door, walk out, turn around and the webs are back!!!

You can spray with some insecticides and control them to some extent, there are pest control companies that offer annual treatments.

We have spiders on and around our rural house, they tend to make a mess of the north sides of the house and garage, but in 20 years I have not been bitten, and in 5 years DW has not been bitten either.

Wolf spiders do bite. My hubby has a crater size scar on the back of his lower leg from a bite while roofing in Washington State years back.
BTW this was in Western Washington where we have lots o spiders!

Yes there are spiders in Eastern Washington. Tons of them. But if it really concerns you, you can have your house sprayed once a year, in the fall, and that seems to keep them at bay.

Where in Eastern Washington are you looking at?

We were kind of looking at Seattle area. Probably outskirts though like Bellevue. We haven't really done much than looking. It will probably be 3 years before we even move. But we are planning a trip out there this summer to see what we think of the area.

I have to spray a spider barrier once or twice a year. It helps some, but we're inundated with them. Haven't seen many if any brown recluses or black widows, and no garden spiders, but tons of little ones. If you hate spiders, you may not like this. A few scorpions here too, not so many.
