You're right. I crossed the bridge very infrequently, so I always paid $4. With the pass, though, I thought it was $3. But you may be right.

That seems like a lot to me...I think you could find something cheaper.

Sounds like NO KIDS.

Consider something in the 800SF - 1200 SF range, (Very common and livable in PNW.)

Gig Harbor has been highly recommended but doesn't seem to be suitable for early 30ish couple.
If, NO KIDS, There are some wonderful spots in West Tacoma area (and near the zoo) that would split the commute and be very accessible to each of your places of employ. You will not have a big problem commuting north, as it is opposite the large traffic flow. I would find a nice 'retreat' home with a good view of the Puget Sound and access to a large park RELAX @ home. That can be a lifesaver after a commute and the hassles of working new jobs.

Have you checked out the AHRN website? You need a .mil email address to access it, but there are plenty in the UP area for way less than $1800.

@Stealthrabbit - A relaxing retreat sounds ideal. Thanks and we have added W. Tacoma to our search. Is the rule of thumb stay out of S. Tacoma?

@Seattleite61 - Thanks for the tip on AHRN. We hope to find something real soon.

Dupont is the Place if you can find a house. It's a nice niche in the area.

Also a fairly large Military presence in Lacey just south of Dupont. Living there would give you access to Olympia during off hours. Better then Tacoma by far.
Gig Harbor can be nice but the everyday Bridge traffic is the Killer to me.

Wish you the best wherever you land.....

DuPont has a lot more worst traffic than the "Bridge traffic".... and a bad location for the OP, considering he has to get to Bremerton.

I agree. And the bridge traffic is at a minimum now (and will get better) because of the new bridge.
