Since I may have a job interview about a position in Yakima, I, as a beach lover, need to know which beaches on Central and Southern Washington?

Most popular beach? Most crowded beach? Least crowded beach? Beach that avoids tourist trap? Most quietness beach? So on!:

When you say you are a beach bum, what exactly do you like to do?

If you are envisioning a California style beach, with beach volleyball, surfing and partying with girls in bikinis, that really doesn't happen on the Washington coast. Even mid-July through August, temps on the ocean beaches rarely climb above the low to mid 70s, and rarely is there not at least a breeze off the ocean, making it feel even cooler. Many days the fog doesn't burn off until late morning or later.

The central coast would consist of places like Ocean Shores, Copalis, Pacific Beach, and Moclips. While popular, none are beaches that would be considered "crowded" by most standards. They can get busy on weekends, and especially holiday weekends, but again, you're not tripping over people and struggling to find a place to set up.

South coast would be Long Beach, Ocean Park, Ilwaco. Same as above. LB gets busy on holiday weekends, weekends and during the kite festival, but other than that, you won't be fighting crowds.

Least crowded, quietest beaches? Any of them on a weekday, or before the 4th of July, or after school restarts.

Avoiding tourist traps? All of them, other than Ocean Shores and Long Beach. Again though, tourist trap is relative up here.

If you want to hang on the beach in the summertime, enoying the sun, and not be in a fleece half the time, the beaches on the Puget Sound are a better bet.

Chelan and Roosevelt are even better yet.

Potholes state park or Moses lake would be more what you're looking for and closer to Yakima. Lakes with somewhat of a party atmosphere in places in the summer, and warm water.

Thanks to CarlB328. Yep, I know that the water temperature of Pacific Ocean is colder than the one in Atlantic Ocean. Of course. Lake water could be warmer.

Alki Beach and Golden Gardens in Seattle are the most crowded.

Of the ocean beaches, Ocean Shores and Long Beach are the big hotel/tourist places. Seaside, OR and Cannon Beach, OR, not too far south of the Washington border are even more popular. More quiet beaches are found at Grayland and north of Ocean Shores at Copalis, Pacific City, and Moclips. For nature and scenery, check out Beach #4 and Ruby Beach in Olympic Natl. Park, right along US 101. Shi Shi beach is great too, but you have to travel through Neah Bay to access it.

For surfing, Westport.

You do realize that Yakima is over 4 hours from the nearest ocean beach?

Also two hours to Moses lake. The only close "beaches" are on the Yakima River.

Congratulations on your new job, seriously, congratulations but you will have a drive to the nearest beach and that water is going to be chilly.
