I have worked for 34 years, the last 25 in the medical field for the same company. I am in Washington State. I got laid off due to "restructioning" my job was eliminated. I know I have to do 3 job searches a week. Can these employer contacts be done via a phone call to see if the are hiring. As I know a lot of places I have delt with in the past and would love to work at. Since I am laid off I don't have the gas money to run around to all these places to give them a resume. This question has been bothering me as I have heard conflicting answers. Thank you so much.

Hi, a lot of companies nowadays take applications via internet however maybe you can FAX or email your resumes to employers as well.

You want to keep a variety of contacts during unemployment claim. They will audit you every so often and like to see some personal / 1:1 efforts. Do one of each (email / web, Phone, walk-in). (Keep a record and glue want ads in a spiral notebook)

I suggest applying with Wa State Vets home in Retsil & Orting.

Gas money a problem??
Get yourself a VW Diesel Rabbit and burn FREE waste frying oil. You can find Rabbits hiding in Brier Patches through-out the PNW. I have got some for free!!

50mpg since 1976, no Dinosaurs or OPEC required...

I'm pretty sure you can but they may want you to provide the name of the person you talked to, number, time etc.
Its just a heck of a lot easier to make your three contracts via the net on the worksource site, careerbuilder, or even the state of wa site. Just send your resume and write down the contacts name and job order number on your sheet.

Three contacts sounds like a lot but in reality most people can do the weekly minimum online in about five minutes.
