We are going to clean the house, and spot clean any marks on the carpet (altho there were a bunch when we moved in)

Are we responsible for cleaning the carpets? or is that the landlord's responsibility?

We are in Redmond WA

Cleaning is normally the residents responsibility... where as normal wear and tear is the owner's.

The confusion often comes about on how to determine wear and tear... and dirt is not considered wear and tear.

What did the move in "Inventory and Condition" form say. Most property owners and all Property Management Firms require proper cleaning or it will be deducted from your security.

I did have a long term tenant call to ask me about carpet cleaning on move out. I told him not to worry about it as it was scheduled to be replaced...

You might ask the manager to meet with you for a preliminary walk through to avoid potential problems...

He said he was going to come by to do a move in inspection and never came or arranged one. I think he may have had the carpets cleaned, although there were still spots in some rooms...... some of which I have probably cleaned as I try to stay on top of any spots on the carpet.

The white gas stove top was black near the burners when we moved in, and we did ask him to clean it, which it was partially done...... and my sister and I spent an afternoon scrubbing the rest. (It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long, long time)
