Anyone have an opinion on the Lettered Streets neighborhood? Looks like there are some places I can afford. I was hoping not to have to get in the car all the time, so thinking I could hop on a bicycle instead. Thoughts?

It's a great neighborhood, centrally located and quite walkable/bikeable (walk & bike scores in 70's and 80's). We recently bought a house a few streets over in the Sunnyland neighborhood- and we love it. Within a mile of most of the neighborhoods, you have the 24 Haggen grocery store on Meridian, Trader Joe's, the downtown co-op, and Terra Organica Grocery Store (and just a little further to Whole Foods and Fred Meyer). Super easy access to the water, marina, downtown and all kinds of other trails, including along the waterfront and boardwalk to Fairhaven. Also, depending on how close a stop is, the bus lines are relatively efficient ways to get around.

Of course, there are a lot of things that you can do within a short drive of Bellingham. But, compared to other places I've lived, if you live in much of the city west of I-5, you can really ditch the car and (safely) enjoy yourself around town to get to a number of things and can access some amazing scenery- especially as the days get longer and we start to warm up!

What other kinds of things would you like to know?

This is sounding better and better! I even just found a place to take my tap classes again. I'm hoping I can find some kind of part time work, either in a book store, office (I'm currently an executive assistant for C-level SVP), but I'm not picky. I used to sail, maybe I could work on a boat . Thanks for all the info bartonizer!
