Instead of complaining to the wrong person (us), lets attend the City Council meetings and get involved with City Planning! We don't make the rules-we just abide by them.

Unfortunately, our City was platted as a residential community and as it is quite evident, we cannot stop progress!

The Ocean is calling...answer the call!!

...we cannot stop progress! [/QUOTE]

There is a difference between progress and exploitation.

Making sure we all have clean, good tasting water would be progress.
Replacing the city council with people who represent the residents instead of the development interests would be progress.

Clearing the land to build more houses when there is a surplus of real estate on the market, or destroying the public wildlife area for profit, or building huge condos on the beach which ruin the view and cause congestion is exploitation.

Default Complaining to the wrong people

Dear, dear Fat Freddy,

You are complaining to the wrong people again. We don't make the rules-we just abide by them! Complain to the City @ 360-289-2754.

Gotvette,

I'm not complaining. I am simply presenting an alternative view to the Chamber of Commerce real estate broker propaganda that often gets posted in this forum.

There are lots of people who came to Ocean Shores for its natural beauty and quiet peaceful lifestyle who share my views and oppose exploitive development and its destructive effects on our immediate environment and our quality of life.

Since the purpose of this forum is to give information, I think it's appropriate that these views be shared.

Moderator note:

Fat Freddy's point is well taken, gotvette. This is a discussion forum and not a medium for promoting an area.

You're turning this discussion into a one way promotion for an agenda and using this and other threads as your soapbox.

Let's get back to discussion please.

Is that shipwreck still have buried in the sand at Ocean Shores ?
I've been on that boat when it was in service. It is the SS Catalina. It was a steam powered passenger ferry that went from San Pedro to Catalina Island. It was bought and it ran aground in a storm.

For years, it would stay buried in the sand and forgotten. Then when the right storm conditions came along it would pop out, interest would be renewed, and it would become a minor tourist attraction until the weather buried it up again.

Recently they found that it still contained oil that was leaking out.

The last I heard there was work underway to finally remove the oil and the remains of the hull and clean up the area.

At various places around town you can still see dinnerware and other stuff that was looted from the ship when the wreck first happened.

Default Still a beautiful, quiet place to live

Ocean Shores is still a gorgeous area and as we fish on Duck Lake, we listen to the birds and the Ocean! Check it out!
