I lived in the greater Seattle area years ago and hope to move back. We hope to find a rental house (or maybe an apartment, townhouse, or condo?) for $1000 or less. We also have a large dog and two cats. We need to be in a good (safe) neighborhood and within 30-40 min. from downtown Seattle. Am I dreaming? Which areas, in any direction, should I consider?

Hmm... sorry to say... definitely dreaming. 1K/mo for a house within 40mins to Seattle (traffic-free) with multiple animals isn't realistic. A lot of places would require a huge pet deposit and even possibly pet rent (per pet).

Hmm, I'm inclined to point out Auburn and the areas south and southeast as being possibilities... but the pets factor throws the wench.

Look at Snohomish and Monroe. You might make it to Seattle in 40 minutes if you go in the middle of the night and speed but that's about the best area for low prices and landlords that like pets.

Thank you. Had not heard of "pet rent"--what is that?

Basically... you're paying for your pet to live with you. It depends on which company, landlord you have... the range can go from $25 a month to $250 a month. Not all LLs opt to do this, but I've noticed (with my friends' situations) the closer you are to DT Seattle, the more likely you have pet rent.

Thank you for the encouraging suggestion. Wish I knew more about those areas--will have to do some research.
