Hello Forum!
I am so glad I found this great place.
In a nutshell, I am leaving San Diego finally and want to move to Washington,
it's been my dream for so many years.
I've never set foot in the state and have no idea where to go.

My question is, where would you live if you wanted;
- coolest temp year round
- small town but bigger city within 50 miles
- will rent at first then buy
- able to find other sport bike riders

I hope to be able to take some time in a couple of months to drive up there and start looking for a place to rent then moving really soon afterwards

Thanks for taking the time to read this

Debera

Debera, there are many small, cool temperature towns within 50 miles of a major city and lots of dedicated bike trails in Western Washington. The next question you need to ask is: What about employment opportunities?" If you need to work to support yourself, you should concentrate on areas that have employment opportunities which match your skill set. Some of my favorite areas are Bellingham, Anacortes, Poulsbo and the Olympic Peninsula.

Vancouver / Camas. LOTS of bikes (peddle and motor), lots of nearby riding (10 minutes),
10 minutes a BIG town with lots MORE bikes / shops.

10 minutes to a GREAT airport with $29 direct flights to San Diego (sun breaks... I do them Often)

Why would anyone want to leave a city with almost perfect weather and come to rainy Washington?

Several of us on this forum have done just that!!!
Weather-wise, I for one got tired of the same-old same-old (though I do agree with you that the weather in SD is great). I love cooler, cloudier, even rainy weather. But more than that, I craved trees, lakes, and all the natural beauty of the PNW.
Call us weird, but some folks actually do prefer it here!
HOWEVER, I do not and will not bash San Diego!!! It's a beutiful city, and I'm so very glad my children grew up there, never having to worry about whether they could do outdoor activities. Birthday parties, the zoo, SeaWorld, the wild animal park, a day at the beach, playing in the snow near Julian ... it was great!
But now it's time for me, and I'm enjoying every minute of it (OK, I did NOT enjoy losing power for 5 days a year ago last January, I must admit...)

For some of us, that's part of the appeal. When you endure 69 degree dew points for half the summer and don't care for the sun as shocking as this may sound to you, Washington is damn near perfect.

Anyway DebraD if you are able to, take a trip here and get a feel a little bit. I moved from SD too (by way of the bay area) and so far I really like it here.

Don't get me wrong I love certain parts of Washington and have lived here for nearly 50 years. But the weather in San Diego is nearly perfect. If I had a choice of any other place in the US to live besides here it would be San Diego.
I worked in the Seattle area for 35 years and moved to the Peninsula when I retired in 2000. In all the places in the entire world I have been to this is the best by far but San Diego weather wise beats anywhere in Washington hands down.
My second choice would be Santiago, Chile followed by London and Vienna.

Follow the money. If you have money, follow the tax and weather.
If you love SD weather, the only place you will not hate in WA is Sequim area.
If you hate SD weather, any place will do.
If you love SD weather and hate 2 lanes highway(5 and more must yield), DO NOT go to WA.

Count me in too. I moved up from Temecula but also lived in San Diego for several years. I liked the area and think San Diego is a great city, but needed green, trees, lakes, nature, etc. Semi-arid landscapes hurt my eyes.

Simple explanation. For some people, weather is THE factor. For others, weather is A factor. Unlike others who move here to escape the sun, I like good weather as much as anyone. It's simply that weather is just one of many factors for me. San Diego is one of America's better cities for sure.
