As a green-faced Washingtonian living in Yakima, I will plan to take my visiting 21-year old daughter from Maryland to Western Washington for three days. Tomorrow I will take her to Leavenworth in the morning and drive on Route 2 and I-5, toward Blaine, where I reserved for two nights. Sunday - tour Vancouver and Monday - tour Seattle.

The purpose of this message is to ask you to give me few attractions on the route from Monroe to Blaine tomorrow afternoon and evening, although there are too many things to see and visit in this area. Thanks.

Are you wanting to go straight to Blaine as in no diversions to Seattle? If so, you could go to Mukilteo and take the ferry to Whidbey, have breakfast in Coupeville and cross Deception Pass taking you into Anacortes on the way to Blaine. The ferry from Anacortes could take you to the San Juan Islands, have lunch in Friday Harbor and take the ferry back to complete your trip to Blaine?

Seacove's suggestions are almost same ones in some travel brochures. Thanks.

Well, sorry, but that's what's on the way to Blaine; just trying to help.

Oh good. I thought you were saying it lacked imagination but it's not like we have the world's biggest ball of string on the way to Blaine.

Your first suggestion happens to be the scenic byway called "Whidbey Scenic Isle Way" while your second one is "San Juan Islands Scenic Byway".

Well then, we just did the Whidbey Scenic Isle Way last weekend and the ferry was surprisingly calm. Maybe it was the weather but the only long lines we saw were the ice cream shop in Coupeville. Even the restaurant at the end of the pier wasn't bad. I can recommend the battered cod, scallops, shrimp and calamari basket with onion rings.

$1.99 for a large cone of Ivar's Ice Cream shop in Mukilteo. I was there on the weekend of May 12th during my first-ever trip to Seattle.
