Our family lived in the Philippines for 8 years from 1984 to 1992 and I'm wondering if there are any Filipinos who are members or visitors to this forum and wonder what do you think about living in Washington state after the heat of the Philippines? It's definitely not cold, and wet and sometimes snowy there. Well, except in Baguio. How do you cope? And do you ever get to return home - balikbayans? What kinds of pasalubongs do you take? Are you able to find Filipino food here in Washington? If you have older family members with you, have they been able to assimilate? Are there many Filipinos in your area and do you find Filipinos from other parts of Washington to meet and get to know? Has anyone ever returned home because Washington was too cold, too wet, too (something)......?

I am not Filipino, but I can tell you that our hospital in Bremerton (Harrison Medical Center - Bremerton Washington) is filled with Filipinos, everyone from doctors (lots) to dietary staff (also lots). They are excellent people, very friendly, and very good at their jobs. I enjoy working with them (and the food is GREAT at holidays!).

I believe Filipinos make the largest or the 2nd largest asian population in the Seattle area.

I agree with what you guys know about Filipinos. They are warm and friendly and the food is amazing. I didn't know they are the 2nd largest Asian population here but I was hoping that some of them would be visitors or member to the forum. Maybe they haven't found it yet or maybe there is a better meeting place online for them.

Kumuesta,

My wife is Filipina, there are several large Navy bases and Army/Air force bases in WA. You will find tons of filipino's, especially near the bases, most of my retired military friends are married to filipina's.

There are filipino restaurants around, lots of casino's ;-) too. The weather here is much cooler, my Nanay came and went home due to it being too cold here. But my sister in law's like it here.

There is also a huge asian population in California and the weather is much warmer.

Take care

Tony

Wow, coulda fooled me. I don't see many in the Eastside or Seattle. I do see more of them further south (e.g. Auburn) or further north (e.g. Marysville) and also a lot are affiliated with the Navy. I'm Flip too but I grew up in Vancouver, BC so can't really compare the climate here to the Philippines.

Eastern Washington is very warm in the summers, i was born here in WA, but my mom (born in Davao) used to say she loved the summers here because they were so simmilar, but less humid.
