I hardly think a prison looming over a town is a positive. Especially when you have tragedies like recently with that female guard.

lot's of people take a metro vanpool, ct vanpool, to all the high tech / aerospace employers and have ZERO commute costs - not even tolls

msft connector motor coaches also

employers pay - all hov lane - wifi - pop on the headphones and go

easiest commute ever

Monroe?? Awesome??

You remember what your mother said.....

Best thing for Monroe....A bypass. Wait, that's a win-win situation for my friends in western Washington that sit in traffic in Monroe.

Seems with all the emphasis on getting people out of Puget Sound on weekends that this would be a transportation priority for the state of Washington.

That's pretty funny. I have relatives there and go frequently, the only ones that are true:

#1 - affordable single family houses
#4 - outdoor recreation within minutes
#5 - friendly small town charm
#7 - rural / urban edge advantage
#10 - the prison

and #10 is a big negative.

Vanpools are not free, I was in one for two years. Even with partial employer subsidies it cost us each $27/month, with inconvenient waiting for people and additional stops. I changed to the bus which is free since my employer pays for the Orca card. That commute is 10 miles more than mine, and with light traffic and car pool lanes it's still an hour, that's no easy commute.

Sorry, but I have lived in Sultan and Monroe (and have family that still do live in both). The traffic is HORRIBLE... bypass will help, but not solve. The bottom line is, the main road through town and over the pass can only be made so wide and accomodate so many weekend travelers. The hospital is sub-standard (IMHO) and the prison does not add to the "friendly small town charm".

It's wonderful that you seem to love the town you live in. Congrats to you !

tuesdays are the slow days until we go 4 lanes

most employers will cover the whole cost - it's negotiable @ top firms

so it's less than a $1 a day - even at your rate

#10 keeps us under the radar -

that's why we take the 300k in housing savings and
boat in the San Juan's
ski in Blackcomb
kitesurf at the gorge
snowboard in sun valley

i could go on and on...
