Republicans got thrown out of the majority in Minnesota in favor of more liberal Democrats. One reason for dissatisfaction was the miring of the last session with social conservative issues. So what do the Democrats do? Make the opposite positions on those same issues their first priority. Talk about complementary forms of stupidity. Hello! We have real issues to deal with!!!

Seattle is full of yuppies. I guess they are liberal. Overall WA is like most of the West. Highly libertarian with a smattering of social conservatives. I moved to Ellensburg and like it a lot. Leans conservative but as a progressive I don't feel isolated here. Cwu brings lefties. The Cowboys are righties. We all get along

It's the same in just about any state you care to pick. I grew up in rural Michigan, and it didn't matter if we all voted X. If Detroit voted Y, we got Y. The big cities always call the shots.

There are many, many, states that, were it not for the urban areas, would be vastly different. Think about New Mexico sans Albuquerque and Santa Fe, Pennsylvania sans Philly, Maryland sans Baltimore, or Florida sans Miami, Tampa, and Orlando: All these areas would be vastly different politically were it not for the populous urban areas.

My point is that the big divide in most of the country isn't so much between states, but between urban (and to a lesser extent suburban) and rural areas within and among states. In this regard WA isn't that different from national trends.
Wisconsin without Milwaukee. Oh boy.

Rememeber... elections in WA don't represent the STATE, only 2 counties within the state. The rest of the state just lives / funds / deals with the results. There are millions of WA voters who have NEVER been on the winning side of a single issue / vote.
(but only 31 yrs of defeat for me...)
Ain't pretty, but so it is with life.
Damn that sucks.

Many of the states in the Northeast vote Democrat even in the more rural areas.

Take out Boston in Massachusetts and it would still be blue.

I agree, but I think the underlying question here is the blue parts of Massachusetts the same blue as Seattle (i.e. the reason that people think WA is so blue)?

Rural MA may vote blue, but are they the same kind of militant feminist, WHO-riot, hate-everything-conservative that the liberals in Seattle are?

Seems to me that our small, concentrated area of ultra-liberals is what gives us the reputation of liberal; when compared to New England states, who may be more Democratic but are also more reasonable about it. Just IMO...

Remember.. This country is pretty much 50/50 even in the most red or blue states.

No the NE is more old.school.blue, like up on the iron range in MN. More of a Teddy Roosevelt types, from before this country shifted radically right!

Indeed Teddy was a Republican. By today's standard he would be a Socialist!!!!

Seattle.is.full of.angry young people. Which they have the.right to be angry, as the.American dream has been stolen from them. No way no matter how.hard.they work will the majority will not have any where near the quality of life.as their.parents..or parents parents.

Yep,. Many draw the bulls eye on corporate america who broke the contract of respect for the worker for better stock value.

Well, I agree with you here. But I disagree that partisan politics has anything to do with that. Both sides are equally corrupt.
