Hello all. I know similar questions have been answered but not specific to my situation. I got a job in marysville but the company will be relocating to Everett. I am a 30 year old single young man and I want to live somewhere fun. I would not mind a reasonable commute. I will be making 70k base pay and a sign on bonus of 7500. I am looking to spend around 1k for rent and looking for an area that has young single people, a fun area with nice shops and restaurants. Not too pretentious though. Close to i5 would be nice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer to live in Seattle because I want to live where there is stuff going on.

Thanks!!

Tough one. Everett and even Lynnwood to the south are not exactly the "hip" capitals of Western Washington. If you want to live in Seattle, then you are in for a horrific commute, normally 30 minutes, but sometimes double or triple that. So it is your choice. Live in Capital Hill, Queen Anne, or even Fremont, (cooler areas), and drive longer, or take a nice apartment in South Everett or Lynnwood. The choice is yours.

If I were in your position, I would live closer to work and make the occasional drive to the fun places. But that is just me.

How about the Wallingford/Green Lake area? It's close to I-5, north of downtown, lots of young folks, close to the University of Washington, eclectic, diverse, and liberal. The commute to Marysville will be about a 35-mile drive and take about 45-50 minutes during the normal commute but essentially a reverse commute to about Lynnwood where Boeing Everett traffic mixes in northbound for a bit. Wallingford to Everett will be a bit better, obviously. I'd choose somewhere north of downtown Seattle for a smoother commute.

I'd consider Northgate as it is not far from Seattle, has apartments, and is a pretty busy, if not hip area that I believe has a fair amount of young people. you'd still have a pretty long commute, but much easier than starting downtown, and in the evening you could be in Seattle in probably 15 minutes.
