Hi all, moving to the Mt Vernon area for a job opportunity. We live in the outskirts of Lynden WA right now, in a country setting. Does anyone know where the country type areas are in Burlington and Mt Vernon, that way when I search for it, I know what to look for. Thanks

If you're looking for a house to buy, use one of the real estate sites that shows listings on a map, or specify the minimum size of the property. If you're looking for a house to rent, just look up the addresses on a map and see.

Pretty much everywhere except in town is "country." The "city" parts of Burlington and Mount Vernon are pretty small. Most of what's west of the freeway is rural. You might also look in Bow, Sedro-Woolley (Sedro-Woolley addresses, anyway), the areas to the south of Mount Vernon (Mount Vernon addresses), and the area along Hwy 9.

Are you looking for acreage or just for a place that's not in town?

I would like to rent a house on some land. We live on a pretty big size land now out of the town. Not wanting to be in town, as we like not having lots of neighbors, ect.

The opportunities will be here and there - you'll just have to see what's available and check out each possibility.

I like this sort of thing, so I looked on craigslist. Going back to the beginning of the year I found five possibilities:
1. one in Clear Lake
2. one in town but right across from Hillcrest Park
3. "House in Country" that doesn't say where in Skagit County it is
4. "Big Lake/Lake Cavanaugh"
5. One just inside Skagit County, but with a Bellingham address. Big house, acreage.

#'s 1 and 4 are off of Hwy 9.
Only #5 is west of the freeway (unless #3 is). That area is rural, but of course fewer houses also means fewer houses available for rent.

I think most landlords and property managers list on craigslist, but you can find other websites too. Some people just put up a sign - I saw one on either Montborne Rd or Walker Valley Road off of Hwy 9 recently.

Burlington and Mt Vernon are sort of long (not very long) and narrow, so if you go west or east you can find country, except right along HWY 20 which is pretty populated until you get through Sedro Wooley. The traffic tends to be relatively heavy there as well.
