Note the original post was from March of this year. Probably the worst time of the year to drive a mountain freeway. The freeze is ending, and this creates major issues. WSDOT does a reasonably good job repairing the roadway, but sometimes they need to wait until April or even May for weather to become acceptable for repairs. This is not just an I-90 problem, it is a problem with most high elevation freeways.

I understand there are plans for major work to be done on the eastern side of the pass. I believe they are planning to elevate a portion of the freeway to allow migratory wildlife passage (and alleviate the danger of hitting an elk or deer on the freeway) as well as mitigate some of the rockslide issues.
It's a lovely drive. Much nicer than looking at the walls of a tunnel.
