We are moving to the Ft. Lewis area from Maryland. A possible rental has come up in SE Olympia, just east of Ward Lake. It looks like a great area. But what is the REAL commute time from there to Ft. Lewis? My husband is adamant that he will not commute more than 30 minutes. I respect that... but I do like this location. Can anyone speak to the commute from there? What about rush hour? When is rush hour there (what times)? If he's leaving the house at 6 or 6:30, how long will it take to get to post? To me it looks doable...

Thanks for any insight you can offer.

20 minutes. The commute from Ft Lewis southbound on Fridays is congested for some reason. Other than that, save for your normal I-5 accidents, it should be smooth sailing.

Eliette,
My husband's commute to Ft. Lewis is between 15 and 20 minutes and we don't live more than 5 minutes from Ward Lake. There are three possible I-5 exits he'll be able to take. He can take either the Pacific exit and go down Boulevard Rd., the downtown/port exit and go down Henderson, or the Capitol exit and go down Capitol Blvd. You'll figure out which one works best for which time of the day. Good luck with your move.

Sandy
