All they do here is check your tailpipe for 5 minutes every 2 years. It's a little sad, we have such clean air otherwise here, I don't understand why the emission standards are so low.
I know most states have inspections, but nothing like Kommifornia, my parents live there and hate it. There you basically drop your car off for the day, if ANYTHING isn't "California legal" you will fail, even if it's unrelated to anything that actually matters. That's why I mentioned communist.

Agreed. The WA inspections are really easy. Maryland failed me for a burned out fog light - something that isn't even required by law to be on the vehicle.

$15 Emissions test
$7 Scale reading
$43.75 Reg fee
$5 Office fee
$26 Excise Tax
$20 King County congestion reduction charge
$20 License Plate
$15 VIN verification fee
$65 WSP Inspection (for rebuilt titles)

$216.75 Total

I think that's all... This is nuts!
Too bad you MISSED the earlier yrs whan based on Value. It was not uncommon to be over $1,000.

AND if you bring a boat or Motorcycle, you get to pay SALES TAX (again) even if you previously paid sales tax in other State.

Md once burned me for a charging system light that failed to come on when on startup. It was an old foreign car and the bulb wasn't even made anymore. I had to scour junkyards, buy an entire light cluster, then tear apart my dashboard to install it. I won't miss MD's onerous inspections.

Yeah. No one who's lived in Washington for any amount of time complains about car tab fees. When I bought my first new car, sometime around 1995, the registration was around $850 annually. I can live with the about $60 annually that it is now.

To the OP: as has already been mentioned, almost all the fees you have listed are either one-time fees, "special circumstance" fees, or local, King county (NOT state) fees. It's not fair to complain about the state of Washington's "ridiculous" fees, when most of your list aren't typical car registration fees.

As others mentioned, some of those are one time fees. Your regular annual fees will be much lower. People here complain about the fees a lot, but the fact is my two cars are about half as much to renew each year as they were back home in the supposedly low-tax state of Nebraska.

According to the website, if you can prove that you paid tax on it another state, you do not need to pay WA tax.

I just looked in my checkbook for the registration fees I paid one month ago for my one-year-old car: $43.75. That's it, period.

Not true. I moved from CA and didn't pay any tax on the car I brought with me. If you already paid tax on the vehicle in another state, you don't pay it again.

Perhaps if you bring one from Oregon, you do, since no sales tax was paid there, but I don't even know if that's the case.

I can't wait to pay WA car fees! Coming from CA, its going to be a HUGE difference, even with the one time fees.
