Mikela17, hope you see this posting. Here’s a place that, when I found their website, I thought would be a wonderful and beautiful place for a wedding.

Guemes (pronounced GWAY-mus) Island Resort, on Guemes Island, in the San Juan Islands, a small island just north of Fidalgo Island.

Here’s their website: Guemes Island Resort

and here’s the TripAdvisor.com reviews link: Guemes Island Resort (Anacortes, WA) - Campground Reviews - TripAdvisor

You might want to browse TripAdvisor for ideas.

Happy hunting and happy wedding!

I don't think it's pronounced GWAY-mus according to this site it's
Guemes, Skagit (GWEE'-muhs)
AP Washington: Broadcast Pronunciation

somebody that has lived there might know for sure...regardless it is an awesome place.

Hi. I live an hour away from Guemes, on the mainland, and the article I'm citing below was written by a friend of mine who does live there. I visited with her on Guemes this summer. The islanders do pronounce the Spanish word GWAY-mes. Here's the citation:
Discount Hunting Gear, Government Surplus, Ammo, Shooting Supplies, Camping Gear, Outdoor Gear at The Sportsman's Guide (http://www.sportsmansguide.com/article/article_read.asp?aid=160357&sid=84&htl=%2Fwito%2Fw ito_main.asp - broken link)

Yes, zenful, Guemes must be one of the quietest, loveliest places on earth.

I don't know if they allow dogs, but I'm sure you could find their website with a Google search. The wedding dinner was held in a private dining room at the resort and it was so elegant, with beautiful scenery all around.

Good luck with your search, Mikela17. Happy wedding!

The San Juans are amazing. I lived on Orcas Island for 2 summers and saw many weddings, one in my own family even. The island is very low key, and I'm sure you'd be able to find a place that would welcome dogs. There are many private bed and breakfasts. I would avoid actually staying at Rosario. While it is beautiful on the outside, it has been sold a few times in the past few years and needs some renovations. It is also overpriced and probably will not allow dogs. If you know someone with a boat to have at the marina, the dogs are welcome there, but not in the hotel.

Turtleback Farm Inn is gorgeous, has great reviews, and even has an elopement package! Orcas Island Bed and Breakfast - Turtleback Farm Inn, Eastsound, Washington

Yeah, according to a friend and a longtime resident of the San Juans, the pronunciation of Guemes is a localized one. In other words, it isn't pronounced with the correct Spanish pronunciation but rather with an "Americanized" one. Gwee mus is what the locals call it according to my source. The Spanish pronunciation is of course Gway mus.

I suppose it's similar to a lot of locations in California's pronunciations ...they get Americanized. Los Angeles pronounced "las annjelis" instead of "Los Ahn' hey lace" or San Pedro pronounced san peedro.
