How is fall in Western Washington, does it get colorful, or stay cold, grey, green and wet ? Pictures people have taken during fall would be welcomed as well. ^_^

Fall is my favorite time of year here. We have the Big Leaf Maples turning yellow, Vine Maples turning red, and Alders turning yellow in fall, I would not compare it to a place like Vermont but we do have good fall color, spectacular if you drive up toward the mountains. The weather can stay nice through much of September but then the rain starts.

We have a good chance of a damaging wind storm in November, then the cold comes.

Since we have lots of maples, fall is lovely and the best thing ever. That is, until the first heavy rain. Then we begin cleaning up the first yard-full of the million billion wet leaves that will continue to fall over the next 3 months.

I love fall, but coming from the east coast I always found fall in the PNW a bit disappointing. Granted, there are some places where you can find nice color, the ratio of coniferous to deciduous trees is not the same to the Midwest or East meaning less overall color. Another factor that baba_yaga eluded to is that the first heavy rain knocks all of the colorful leaves off of the trees making fall rather short.

The bonus of the high number of coniferous trees is that winter tends to be rather green and they are very pretty if there is a decent snow which all of the white clinging to their branches.

Gorgeous photos! Makes our fall here in Texas look nonexistent. Then again, it pretty much is.

Fall here is great. It's the best hiking season, the alpine meadows are even prettier than they are in late summer when the flowers are out, and the brush strokes of gold aspens and red maples against the green pines and firs in the forests are beautiful. The cold mornings and low light give the air a silvery quality that I don't see in lower latitudes.

Here in Seattle it's worth a walk in the Arboretum or the UW campus when the leaves are changing. The weather in September is perfect - not too hot, not at all humid, with crisp, cool nights that invite snuggling under blankets.

Fall in New England is spectacular, but it is here as well in a different way.

This will be great for me. We don't have "Fall" or "Autumn" in South Florida and I miss the Fall in Missouri.
