I am thinking of moving to Olympia because I have previously worked in local government in Portland, OR and want to work for the state of Washington. I am currently living on the east coast and have had a couple of telephone interviews but no offers. I realize that my chances would be better if I moved to Olympia, but I was hoping someone on this board knows something about how hard it is (or not) to get a state government job. I have a master's degree and administrative experience so do you think I could get a job in state government if I moved there, or is it really competitive? I also really like Olympia, so I would be moving not only for the job but to get out of the Northeast.

Expdexer,
It really shouldn't be hard to get a job with the State in Olympia. Many of my friends are civil servants. Washington State has a budget surplus and is hiring, and building new offices. Of course there are always more openings at lower pay levels. Just keep applying. Good Luck!
