I'll be moving my mom from california to washington (pierce county) next month. She receives social security income in california. I've researched and believe she will get at least the federal amount of social security income in washington. In california, for 2014, she is receiving $877 for a single independent disable person.

Does anyone know much does a single independent disable person receives in social security income in pierce county, of washington? and do you know of other benefits along with ssi (i'm sure medical is one benefit already)?

Social Security is federal, it doesn't matter what state you are in, the check will be the same. It depends on what the person made while working, how many years they worked, and their age when starting to receive the benefit. My mother-in-law managed on about $700/month with some help from us. It was not easy though. She just passed away a few weeks ago at age 95, we moved her up from CA in 1994. What does vary by state is medicaid, the state medical plan, now part of Obamacare, and what housing assistance is available varies by city, county and state. The state medicaid programs for assisted living when the time comes will take someone a good 6 weeks of painful paperwork and even if she qualifies could go on a long waiting list if funding is not available. For housing, we had a 2 year wait, and you have to be in the state to get on the list.

Hi. The amount your mom will receive is the federal base amount for SSI (720) and while I don't know the extra amount for WA state, here is a link to various questions which relate to SSI.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) & State Supplemental Payment

I hope this helps a little.

You will see that your mom's SSI amount will go down after moving to Washington. Why? You happen to live in California, which is famous for the state supplemental payment - one of the best in USA. Sorry!
