What can you guys tell me about La Push? Is it just a town for the tribe, or do other people live there?

Hi. I just spent a bit of time there a couple of months ago. Stunning scenery at the coast!

LaPush is on -- is part of -- the Quileute Indian Reservation. If you are not a member of the Quileute Nation, it's not likely that LaPush is a place where you would wish to live. As I am not a member of a Native American Nation, I don't know the "rules" about non-Native Americans being permitted to reside on tribal land, but I'm guessing you'd prefer to have fewer obstacles in your life in general, eh?

The town of Forks, which is just 14 miles east of LaPush via Hwy 110, contains a pretty wide area, including town and rural farms, and is home to people from pretty much all ethnicities. If that part of the country interests you, Forks would be a much more viable choice for a non-Quileute.

Why are you interested in LaPush? Scenery? Small-town atmosphere? There are many, many places on the Olympic Peninsula which would give you both of those aspects -- and employment as well, which is not possible at LaPush as all non-federal government positions would be filled by people of the Quileute Nation.

You're looking for a place in the forest to live, and a place where you can work in a prison. Forks, or just about anywhere north or south of Forks along or off Hwy 101.

There's Clallam Bay Correction Center, which is a drive north from Forks of some 30-40 miles, at the northern edge of the Peninsula at Clallam Bay, east of Sekiu. There's also Olympic Correction Center, a minimum-security prison about 30 miles south of Forks.

You can't live west of Clallam Bay as the area there, as far as I can tell, is tribal lands and undeveloped lands with forestry dirt roads. East of Clallam Bay is getting into tourist and wealthy territories. Forks, however, does have probably all needed services including schools and, I believe, a smaller hospital.

Found another possibility for you on the Olympic Peninsula: Aberdeen. It has the Stafford Creek Corrections Center, a state prison. I discovered that the lovely smell of Western Cedar is always in the air there.

If you're interested, check the City-Data forums for Washington, go down the list and click on the thread titled "Coastal living in western WA? Aberdeen?: -- has lots of info.
