Sprouters Northwest of Kent WA issued a recall of sprouts that might have listeria contamination. Makes me wonder what they have in common with that German organic farm whose sprouts got banned throughout the EU. Always seems a shock to hear of tainted sprouts since natural foodists are who made sprouts a trendy food. Is it just a problem they made it too popular so now the volumes shipped are too big to monitor quality adequately? I've never thought of Washington as being like some southern state where standards are low. Do these things come for sale at Pike Place Market? Locavores must be put out since their "buy local" mantra would break down in incidents like this.

Edit: Guess there's history here: http://foodpoisoning.pritzkerlaw.com...f-concern.html

Listeria is found in the soil so it would be no surprise to find it on plants. Probably the only thing that needed to be in common for the German and the Washington companies is that both of their products grew in the ground. Listeria is generally only a risk for those with poor immune systems.

Also found on floors, machines, and hands where people work with dirty crops. From the FDA citations, it is clear that they found none of the necessaary hygenic safeguards in place.
